Recent Chapter Activities

During the latter part of November 2009, Cezara Suman of PTPI’s Roman, Romanian Chapter participated in the Training Course of Active Participation organized by the Directorate of Youth and Sport within the Council of Europe. Cezara plans to implement what she learned from the course in her chapter.

December 12, PTPI’s Sofia, Bulgaria (The Doves) Student Chapter organized "The Green Peace Project - Selling Healthy Food." December 23, the chapter held an intercultural event, where international students introduced their countries to the local school community. January 27, in honor of International Remembrance Day of the Victims of the Holocaust, the chapter members held an event named "Survival and the Legacy of Hope" to raise awareness about the historical events commemorated by the holiday. January 28, the chapter made two donations, using its 2008/2009 PTPI Team Peace Challenge award funds. (The chapter was awarded Silver--second place!) Two hundred U.S. dollars were contributed to the International Friendship Fund to assist those in Haiti affected by the recent earthquake, and the remaining $50 USD was given to the Ambassador Charles and Chinyeh Hostler Global Youth Forum Scholarship Fund. The fund underwrites the fees of deserving students to attend PTPI's annual Global Youth Forum. Finally, January 29, chapter members organized a board games tournament at the American Corner in Sofia. Sixteen students from four classes played international and educational games at the event.

January 6, PTPI's Brussels, Belgium Chapter and approximately two dozen friends gathered for a hike through the park of the Castle Tervuren and an informal New Years celebration. February 3, chapter members visited the Silk Road Exhibition that was part of the Europalia Chinese Festival in the European capital.

PTPI’s Kurchatov, Russia (Friends Meeting Friends) Student Chapter sent a package with Christmas greeting cards and gifts to its partner school, Douglas High School, in Arizona USA. In addition, the chapter's adult advisor, Elena Tarlovskaya, spent six weeks in the United States as a finalist of the Russian-American Teachers Exchange Program. This April, the chapter will welcome a U.S. teacher for a reciprocal visit.
