Recent Student Chapter Activities
- Last winter, PTPI’s Scottsdale, Arizona (LEAF) Student Chapter held two innovative fundraising events to raise money for cancer research. During the first event, entitled "Maniac Pops," chapter members sold brain-shaped lollipops at school during lunch and passing periods. The chapter raised more than $500 USD, which it donated to a local student-run charity named Students Supporting Brain Tumor Research. The chapter's second event, which they cleverly named "Are you a man? Do you want to be one?," involved selling fake moustaches at school for $1 USD apiece. The chapter raised more than $100 USD for prostate cancer research.
- This past holiday season, members of PTPI's Varna, Bulgaria (Dolphins) Student Chapter conducted their third Annual Christmas Card Donation Campaign. Partnering with the Pikadily supermarket chain, chapter members made over 500 Christmas cards, which were then sold in area Piccadilly supermarkets. The chapter made nearly $3,000 USD in proceeds. The money was used to buy three LCD TVs, as well as equipment for the children’s intensive care ward, at Varna’s St. Marina’s Hospital.
- Congratulations to PTPI’s East Brunswick, New Jersey Student Chapter for conducting four successful service activities this past quarter! During the first event, chapter members collected 22 boxes of used books, which they donated to the 78th Annual Bryn Mawr-Wellesley Book Sale in Princeton, New Jersey. The proceeds from this sale support college scholarship funds for disadvantaged women in New Jersey. The chapter also collected roughly 200 textbooks and 20 large shopping bags of school supplies for two separate humanitarian projects—schools with Peace Corps teachers in Mozambique and the International Rescue Committee’s global tutoring program. Finally, this past holiday season, the chapter members created several dozen holiday cards, which they delivered to patients at New Brunswick’s Saint Peter’s Hospital.
